We had an exciting week at Umstead State Park full of both the excitement and stillness of nature. Staying true to our theme, we discovered and learned about various critters, like box turtles, toads, salamanders, and snakes. Some of us stretched ourselves and achieved new Growth Rings in areas like Snake Handling and Whittling. We took time to play some classic Schoolhouse games like Eagle Eye and Six Feathers. We also had the chance to experience “sit spots,” a practice of sitting quietly in a bit of nature to observe and enjoy the outdoors. Of course, we enjoyed splashing around in the creek during water time, and building forts during village time. It was a great week! Take a look at the photos below to catch a small glimpse.
